Gina,

I have been using your book to learn ProTools 8 and it has been extremely useful. I have been creating my final mix by recording back to a track in ProTools, no problem. But when I go to create an mp3 (ctl/shift/k) from the final mix track, it exports and creates two mp3s a left and a right. It does not do it all the time, but I can't figure out why it does this. I just want one mp3 in stereo. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks, Guy

ps. If anyone wants to learn ProTools, get Gina's book.

Hey Guy,

Thanks for the compliment.

When you export a stereo mix from Pro Tools, you always want to export the file as a "stereo interleaved" and not "split stereo".

Stereo Interleaved is one file with both left and right - and split stereo is two individual files of left and right?

In the export window that comes up when you boince, it gives you a choice. Always choose Stereo Interleaved,

Why both options? Well, split stereo is what pro tools works with. If you have a stereo track that you imported into Pro Tools, the application will create a copy of your stereo file and separate the left/right into two files.

Why does Pro Tools do this? I actually don't know. Logic and most other audio applications work with true stereo files without having to split them. I just know that it's always been that way...

So Stereo Interleaved is the formal you want to give someone as one whole stereo mix - and the only time you bounce to Split Stereo is if you were bouncing and re-importing file back into your session or if you needed to share tracks with someone else using Pro Tools.

Hope this helps.

All the best,

Gina

You want to choose Convert All.

Are you using Pro Tools 8? You can Google these words "Import Audio Pro Tools" and there are tons of videos online showing you how to import audio.

These days, just so you know, you can Google anything you're looking for.

Here is an example: http://www.articlesbase.com/videos/5min/209619482

Hope this helps.

Hi, Gina.

In an August, 2006 interview, you recommended the Spectrasonics Atmosphere plugin. What is your opinion of its replacement, Omnisphere? Would you expect it to perform satisfactorily on my MacBook Pro (2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, Snow Leopard v.10.6.5)?

Thanks for your great book!

I highly recommend all of the Spectrasonics plug-ins. Omnisphere is like Atmosphere on steroids. And they have great tutorial videos to help you get started.

Hope this helps.

All the best,
